Time to play beauty parlor

Oct-10-2007 By annelions

I’m not usually one to care a lot about my looks. If people like how I look, that’s fine. If not, alright. But sometimes it is fun to play around and think about “what if I…?” Unfortunately, before computers came along, this entailed actually experimenting with different looks until you found one you liked. Of course, hair doesn’t grow so fast so if you cut it too short then you’d be stuck with a bad haircut for awhile. And if you processed it (color, perm, etc.) too many times, you ran the risk of severely damaging your hair and even making it fall out! Yuck!

It’s a good thing that we live in a computer age now, where with a few clicks you can start playing around with how you might look. Give yourself a celebrity hairstyle, a new makeup job or just see how you’d look if you had a different color of hair. The possibilities are endless at Makeover Solutions.

I’ve been spending the past half hour or so playing with various settings until I’ve found one I think I like. You can see the results below. The picture on the left is the ‘after’ picture and the one on the right is the ‘before’ picture. I changed my hair color to something a bit lighter than the dirty brown color it is now, added a bit of makeup and a pair of glasses. You can’t see them, but I also added a pair of earrings. If I had chosen a different hairstyle, the earrings would be more visible.

There is a ton of choices at Makeover Solutions and I’m tempted to subscribe so that I can get even more choices. Perhaps later, then the next time I go to get my hair cut, I’ll be able to print out what I’ve chosen so that I can have something to show the person.

Dangerous shoes

Sep-24-2007 By annelions

I hate wearing shoes, really. In winter, I would rather wear flip-flops than actual shoes and socks. I can’t remember the last time I bought a pair, though. It’s been awhile since I’ve needed to. Now, I’m a bit scared to do so after finding out about some very bad flip flops bought from Walmart. Walmart is where I usually get my flipflops from and I’m sure I’ve bought that brand of them before.

Contaminated pet food, lead in children’s toys and now… shoes that will give you a nasty chemical burn. When is China going to get their act together?

They’re supposedly barcoding vegetables to track them during the Olympics, in case there is a problem. But, after all this with China, I’d be scared to even go over there right now. Or maybe they’re sending us all the crud and keeping the good stuff for the Olympics.

Where does YOUR cat go?

Sep-14-2007 By annelions

One of my cats, whom I call ‘MushyKitty’, used to like to get outside a lot. No matter what we did, he kept trying to escape and get outside. Of course, we were always afraid that he would get run over or something along those lines, especially since it would sometimes be days before he would finally return. I wish now that we had thought to strap a camera to him, then we could’ve seen where he went.

My theory is that he might have found another family out there who liked him about as much as we did. Unfortunately for them, we had MushyKitty first (having found him as a small kitten in a completely different city). MushyKitty no longer wanders so I cannot strap any cameras to him to document his adventures.

Of course, there is always ‘PorchKitty’, who has recently adopted my porch as his home. Probably helps that I do feed him when I see him out there. Maybe one day…

Oooh. Wood cars!

Sep-10-2007 By annelions

I saw a link the other day about a car made entirely out of wood (except for the engine). Alas, I lost that link! But I have found another link, this time from a Russian site that even shows other wooden cars.

In case you somehow doubt that any of the cars are made entirely out of wood, I also found this news article about the three wheeled wooden car pictured. Nifty stuff!

I’m not sure I would want a wooden car (just thinking about what the weather would do to it… ugh!), but they certainly are pretty.

I’m sure that you’ve heard of mystery shopping by now, the internet is full of ads for it. But most of these ads lead either to somewhere that you have to pay to become a ‘mystery shopper’ or to those places that will ‘give’ you a gift card in exchange for signing up for many offers. That’s no good.

If you’re a business and looking for an actual mystery shopping service to hire, they can be tough to find. Bestmark is a mystery shopping service with shoppers across the country. No matter what kind of business you’re in, it’s likely that you can benefit from hiring a mystery shopper or two.

Make your business better by getting feedback where it’s important: from the customer.

Sugar… free?

Aug-30-2007 By annelions

Despite the name of the site, Sugar Free Games has a good deal of games to play that are… unique. The Fafu the Ostrich game is quite strange and, seemingly, easy to play. You collect eggs and then trade them for things (like weapons). Unfortunately, one of the things you must do is leap over alligators and I haven’t been able to do that very well. Oh well. There is a nice Mahjong game I just found. I like Mahjong.

Great Video Game Deals

Aug-29-2007 By annelions

I love playing video games sometimes, even though I’m usually pretty bad at them. I was okay at Super Mario and Super Mario 3, but beyond that I generally play for fun and not to actually win. Judging by things I’ve seen online, lots of other people also enjoy the older consoles either for the simple nostalgia factor or perhaps for the sheer creativeness of the games themselves. That’s why I think it’s great that Game Quest Direct actually sells things for Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Sega Saturn & Sega Genesis. This is extremely cool to me.

On the other hand, I know a lot of people (like my brother) tend to like the newer, flashier games. They have XBOX 360 video games, WII games, PS3 games and more. Game Quest Direct has weekly sales with coupons, so maybe I’ll be able to pick up a nice PlayStation 3 game on sale, for my brother. Or maybe I’ll spend the money on me and get some Super Nintendo stuff instead (sorry, I do like the cheesy graphics).

I don’t have an XBOX, but this week they’ve got a coupon for $10 off of Halo3. If you watch the movie at the bottom of my post, the graphics look simply amazing. If I were any good at games, I’d certainly want to give that a try. Unfortunately, I’ll leave it to someone else to play and tell me how it is.
