Where in the world IS Carmen Sandiego?

Sep-27-2008 By annelions

If you’re aware of my YouTube channel at all, you’ve probably seen my video where I paint a map of the world set to the them from the PBS show ‘Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?’. When I did that video, there was hardly anything on YouTube from that show. I think (though I’m not sure) that mine was one of the first. I know that there were no other videos on YouTube at the time with the theme song.

But now, there are a ton of clips from the actual show that have been uploaded. There are currently 10 or so shows that have been uploaded to YouTube (I haven’t counted exactly). But YouTube does not have the show that I wanted to see. The last show, “A Rodent Ran Through It“.

Why did I want to see this one? If you’re familiar with the show at all, you know that Rockapella was on every episode. There was this guy, that guy, the blond guy and… the guy with the braids. I’m afraid I don’t know who’s who very well. But at the end of the last show of the last season, the host of the show (Greg Lee) cut the braids off of Sean Altman.

This show is not on YouTube!

Fortunately, with a little searching, I was able to find the episode. On a site that I’d never heard of before, called Truveo. I don’t know why I hadn’t heard of it before, it seems pretty cool. It is a video search engine. So not only is the last episode, A Rodent Ran Through It, on there, it lists a total of 350 Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego clips.

Since each individual episode usually makes 2 or 3 clips, that means there are 100+ episodes on there. Though some of them might be clips of the computer game. Are they all different? I don’t know.

There are an additional 763 Carmen Sandiego clips if you use a different search. But this is more likely to include Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego as well as Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego. Either way, enjoy the Carmen Sandiego.

Well, there goes THAT…

It’s been awhile since I visited Wowio.

When I first visited, you had to sign up and you could download five PDFs for free every day. This was great! Then they changed it to three PDFs. Okay. Not bad. Still great! Then it was 3 PDFs for a maximum of 30/month. Not great, but still not terrible.

I went back today, after having forgotten for awhile. It’s changed again. I am sad.

Now half the things on my download list (from last time) aren’t even downloadable. The other half, I can read them online but I have to pay from $1-20 to get the PDF. $20? What’s up with that? I could probably get these titles for half that, used, on Amazon or eBay.

Wowio went from a great place to get things to read when I’m bored to a place to mostly only visit when I REALLY want something. Now.

At least I still have the PDFs I downloaded already. HA! Including the awful Star Trek comics, woo!

Last day for Horribleness

Jul-20-2008 By annelions

If you haven’t seen Dr. Horrible yet, today’s your last chance to do so for free.

It’s very good, even if I wish it had ended differently (which I won’t spoil for you; just go see it).

Have you seen Dr. Horrible?

Jul-18-2008 By annelions

Have you? If you haven’t seen Doctor Horrible, you only have two days left to see it for free! It’s good, really. If you think musicals are awful, you should still watch this. Some music. Light dancing. And, best of all, a mad scientist who wants to rule the world. And his nemesis, bent on stopping him. Follow the banner below to go see what I’m talking about. You know you want to.

I’ve just been browsing around my blog stats, looking for something interesting (which I usually find) and what do I see?

Someone came to my blog searching for ‘remove ads from wowio pdfs’.

You cheater. The ads are there so you get the PDFs for free. But I guess you knew that, right? You want to share the book with a friend? Tell them to go to Wowio and sign up. Wowio is FREE after all.

Or maybe you want to put it up for sale yourself?

Quit ruining things for the rest of us. Really.

Time to play beauty parlor

I’m not usually one to care a lot about my looks. If people like how I look, that’s fine. If not, alright. But sometimes it is fun to play around and think about “what if I…?” Unfortunately, before computers came along, this entailed actually experimenting with different looks until you found one you liked. Of course, hair doesn’t grow so fast so if you cut it too short then you’d be stuck with a bad haircut for awhile. And if you processed it (color, perm, etc.) too many times, you ran the risk of severely damaging your hair and even making it fall out! Yuck!

It’s a good thing that we live in a computer age now, where with a few clicks you can start playing around with how you might look. Give yourself a celebrity hairstyle, a new makeup job or just see how you’d look if you had a different color of hair. The possibilities are endless at Makeover Solutions.

I’ve been spending the past half hour or so playing with various settings until I’ve found one I think I like. You can see the results below. The picture on the left is the ‘after’ picture and the one on the right is the ‘before’ picture. I changed my hair color to something a bit lighter than the dirty brown color it is now, added a bit of makeup and a pair of glasses. You can’t see them, but I also added a pair of earrings. If I had chosen a different hairstyle, the earrings would be more visible.

There is a ton of choices at Makeover Solutions and I’m tempted to subscribe so that I can get even more choices. Perhaps later, then the next time I go to get my hair cut, I’ll be able to print out what I’ve chosen so that I can have something to show the person.

Dangerous shoes

Sep-24-2007 By annelions

I hate wearing shoes, really. In winter, I would rather wear flip-flops than actual shoes and socks. I can’t remember the last time I bought a pair, though. It’s been awhile since I’ve needed to. Now, I’m a bit scared to do so after finding out about some very bad flip flops bought from Walmart. Walmart is where I usually get my flipflops from and I’m sure I’ve bought that brand of them before.

Contaminated pet food, lead in children’s toys and now… shoes that will give you a nasty chemical burn. When is China going to get their act together?

They’re supposedly barcoding vegetables to track them during the Olympics, in case there is a problem. But, after all this with China, I’d be scared to even go over there right now. Or maybe they’re sending us all the crud and keeping the good stuff for the Olympics.
