I am not me

Aug-26-2006 By annelions

I noticed an ad for WaMu (Washington Mutual) today. Free checking and you can sign up online. Cool, huh? So I figured I'd try that. I fill out the form, submit. It asks me what kind of phone is the phone number I just submitted attached to? I answer Cellular. It's a cell phone. I'm staring right at it. The next page says 'Sorry, that's incorrect. Your application has been denied.' or something similar. Dang WaMu. It is a cell phone. Maybe CitiBank will accept my application. If not, I'll figure out something.

I've got about 70% of the money I was hoping for, now, and a checking account would be handy.

ARG…

Yesterday/last night, I sprained my wrist somehow. I'm not sure how. I just know I woke up with a very sore wrist. I think it's better now, but I'm not using it much.

I've got nearly 65% of the money I was hoping for, for another computer. However… Fry's seems to have raised the price on the computer I was wanting to get. To $200. So I guess I'll either have to see if they've lowered the price by he time I get the money, or I'll definitely have to get one on eBay. Sigh.

Progress

I only have about 52% of what I'd like, in order to obtain a computer. The money's slowing down somewhat, unfortunately. I need more. Ugh. I had to wait for 5 hours before I could get on the computer today, and that's low. I'd forgotten how annoying it is to just have 1 computer.

Stamps, stamps and more stamps

Aug-23-2006 By annelions

During my lengthy offline period, I re-discovered my stamp 'collection'. I don't remember where it came from, I think I bought a huge bag from a thrift store. I don't have them in a book or anything like that, simply sorted into ziploc bags. Oodles and oodles of stamps. Half of them were USA stamps, but I can't find most of them. I've got space stamps and airmail stamps from the US, but that's it.

I've got stamps from China, Japan, Thailand, Nigeria, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Rhodisia (North and South), Hungary, Italy, Poland, France, Germany… You name it, I've probably got a stamp from there. None are younger than 1980. Several are from the 1930's. Some mint, too.

I wish I could trade them for a new computer. I've now got about 50% of the money I'm hoping for, to get a computer with.

The whole collection's got to be worth something. Just because there's so many. Maybe $100 altogether? I don't know. Unfortunately, I don't think it'd be worth it to list the stamps on eBay. Stamps don't seem to go for much half the time. Of the 2,313 items matching 'stamp collection' on eBay, only 672 of them have bids. That's only about 30 percent. And many of those are at less than $1. Sigh.

When it rains, it pours

Aug-22-2006 By annelions

Yesterday afternoon, a huge thunderstorm blew in unexpectedly. Lots of lightning, thunder, massive rain. The wind was blowing so hard that at some points, it seemed to be raining sideways.

The fun part was that it knocked out power around the city. Not here, but it was dark all around. Kind of weird to go out and find the streetlights not on. It must've knocked out power at the cable company or something, because once the storm was over and the computer was turned back on, there was no internet. I've been waiting on the internet for 8+ hours. 10 hours. Not sure.

On the plus side, however, I've now got about 45% of the money needed for that computer.

Been looking on eBay, too. I might be able to get a slightly better computer for the same price. I'll see when I've got the money in-hand.

Computer stuff, continued

I'd almost completely forgotten about Fry's Electronics. After looking around Outpost.com, I found a complete system that seems like it will be suitable. 1.4GHz, which is .2GHz slower than the XP system is/was. It also takes SDRAM, which is what I've got. It also comes with a 40GB HD, which is really good. The XP HD is almost completely filled up.

The Computer System

It also costs only $129.99, $156.62 if I have to get it shipped (not including tax). I can probably find a similar system in-store, though, negating the need for shipping. I hope.

There probably won't be any problem getting that system. I've currently got about 1/3rd of the money needed; yesterday, I had about 1/5th.

Money, money, money…

I've had a goodly number of people clicking on my Google ads recently. If this trend continues, I'll definitely be able to get the XP destkop fixed soon. Thank you to everyone who's been reading and clicking.

I've been trying to figure out how much a power supply and motherboard for an eMachines T4165 will cost, but I'm not sure exactly what to look for. Considering how old the thing is (about 5 years?), I'd think the motherboard would be fairly cheap. I hope.

I already know about how much the power supply will cost. About $30.
