Dancing with Jim Carrey?

Jun-24-2007 By annelions

I had yet another weird dream. It seems I have more than my fair share of these, but maybe that’s just me…

I was on a spaceship somewhere… I guess it was the Enterprise, because the captain was Picard (from TNG and I don’t even like Star Trek The Next Generation), but he looked like a Borg.

Anyway, he was giving some sort of confusing commands that I couldn’t understand, it was sort of mumbled and he wouldn’t repeat it. But I did understand that I was supposed to take some sort of gun and go shoot someone. I wasn’t sure why. So I found who I was supposed to shoot on the ship, only I was confused. There were two people! Which do I shoot? I ended up shooting both of them, and the gun shot out some sort of sticky goo that melted the correct person but didn’t hurt the other one…

Then I was wandering around the ship, trying to take care of something else, and Jim Carrey keeps coming up and bothering me, asking me to dance with him. I don’t even like him and I’m busy anyway, but I do tell him that, yes, I’ll go or else when I tell people that I’ve met him, then I’ll never be able to tell them I went dancing with him…

So I keep trying to avoid him and for some reason he wanders off and dresses in a Spiderman costume and brings a group of 8-10 year old kids aboard the ship. I think I found out he was a spy or something and I was going to have to shoot him with my sticky-goo gun, but I don’t remember the details.

I think that there was also something in there about me stocking a supermarket deli case (on the ship) with party platters, but I’m not entirely certain.

Go to the beach on your computer

I must admit, I love making ecards. They’re an awful lot of fun, especially if you get to customize them. Beaches Resorts has a nice e-card maker where you make sandcastles… And it’s lots of fun! Even though there aren’t really any beaches around here (in Arizona), I always had fun playing in the sandbox and making sandcastles when I was little.

There are several sand castle shapes to choose from and you can dye those shapes various colors. Ever wanted a pink sandcastle? How about a blue one? You can do that! Or you can make it multi-colored, like I did with mine:

I decided to get a bit silly with mine (as usual) and made it a bunch of colors. I also put crabs up atop two of the towers (can you see them?) and called the castle ‘Fort Crab’. I guess about the only kind of for crabs would have is a sandcastle!

Of course, if virtual sandcastles aren’t enough, you can always actually go to the beach. I know I want to go to the beach now, after playing with the virtual one!

So go ahead, play with the virtual sandcastle maker… Maybe have a sandcastle building contest with friends and family. But don’t blame me if your summer vacation ends up at the beach. :-D

Where did that nursery rhyme come from?

Jun-21-2007 By annelions

I found a rather interesting site today and have been spending the past couple hours reading about the origins of various nursery rhymes. I’m not sure how accurate it is (I’ve heard things both for and against ‘Ring around the rosie’ being a rhyme about the Bubonic Plague), but it’s an interesting read nonetheless.

There are a good many rhymes there and I can’t think of one that’s not included, actually.

Spy shows are cool…

Do you remember the old show, Macgyver? No? Me either. I’ve heard a lot about it, but I’ve never actually seen an episode of it. Well, I’ve just heard of a new spy show: USA Network’s Burn Notice. The premise sounds interesting, sort of like Macgyver and sort of not.

So if you had to make spy gear out of household objects after being kicked out of the CIA, what would you do? Here’s my idea:

I had something profound to say…

But I can’t remember what it is that I wanted to blog about. I hate when that happens. I know I had a really good topic, but now I can’t think of anything. The kitten’s doing good, I’m doing good, everything is doing good.

Maybe I’ll remember what, exactly, I wanted to blog about later.

Don’t be like me…

I’m always ‘trying’ to learn another language, but I keep getting distracted. I’ve got tons of books, software, you name it. The language I’m trying to learn varies, too. Sometimes it’s Italian, sometimes French, Spanish, Japanese…

I have no self-control. I want to know everything.

But one thing I’ve found helpful (even though I haven’t gotten too far yet) are things like listening to a Spanish audio book.

An Ear for Books has a lot of foreign language audio books, starting at just over $9. I’m not sure how good those are, but they do have Pimsleur books as well. Although expensive, Pimsleur books are supposed to be some of the best for learning another language. And An Ear for Books has a lot of different languages to choose from.

Even if you don’t want to learn another language, An Ear for Books has other audio books that you can buy. If you want to know the sort of audio quality they have, you can download some books (though they’re not foreign language books) for free.

Waking up with a kitten on your face

Jun-15-2007 By annelions

The past couple days, I have had a most interesting alarm clock. You see, the kitten’s been sleeping on my bed. Almost as soon as it starts getting light out, the kitten starts getting all excited. If the kitten happens to be under the blanket when the sun’s coming up, the blanket happens to look like it has a rather large kitten-sized piece of popcorn underneath - in the process of popping.

But the kitten doesn’t stop there. If I don’t wake up quickly enough (as in, within 3 minutes), the kitten starts jumping on my face. Literally jumping and pouncing on my face, as if it’s a bit of string. Of course, as soon as I’m actually awake, this stops.

All I can say is that it’s a very… interesting way to wake up.
