Debt consolidation

May-12-2007 By annelions

I try to avoid getting any debt whatsoever, but sometimes getting a debt is unavoidable. If you get sick, even if you do have insurance, there’s a good chance you’re going to rack up at least some debt. Maybe medical bills, maybe regular bills, maybe both. However you get debt, once you’re in debt it’s not easy to get out of debt again.

Are you looking for help because you may be in a financial difficulty? Do you need more clarification on the rudiments of credit help? Are you trying to straighten out your money problems, so you want to make sure to avoid mistakes with debt consolidation?

Mmm… fried electronics…

About a year ago, maybe two years, my mom decided that she really wanted a portable DVD player when she saw one on sale for about $50-60 (usually about $150). It worked well enough until the AC adapter plug decided to fall apart.

Okay, fine, just buy a replacement, right? Wrong! The maker, Emprex, doesn’t seem like they sell replacement parts. Can’t find any.

So… universal adapter seems like the only solution (aside from buying another $90-150 DVD player)… I asked some people what the best kind was and I was told to get one from Radio Shack. When I went to the Radio Shack website for the $40(!!!) adapter, I find I can’t buy one online. But, yet, every store around here seems to have them (according to their in-stock-find-o-thing). I couldn’t go to Radio Shack to get one, because my mom would want to know why I’m going to Radio Shack. So that’s out, because it’s supposed to be a surprise.

Agh.

Alright, so I had my brother get a $16 universal adapter from Wal-Mart on his way home from work. He brings it home and I realize that the DVD player does not have the polarity marked. The cigarette lighter adapter I had didn’t have the polarity marked, either. So if I guess and plug it in wrong, I’ve got the potential of completely killing the DVD player… This, of course, would negate the whole purpose of getting the adapter in the first place.

I looked all over, trying to find the polarity, to no avail. Ugh.

So for the past two days or so, I’ve been thinking that I would either have to risk it or simply wait… and still have no DVD player…

I finally figured out the polarity, but that’s for another post. ;-)

Trying to pick out a gift

May-11-2007 By annelions

Aside from my kitten-baby, I don’t have any baby-babies. Not that I won’t, some day, but not right now. On the other hand, my cousin does have several kids already and it’s difficult sometimes to figure out what to buy for her and her kids. But now I’ve found the perfect site with baby products that I’m sure she’ll love! Even I like them and I don’t even have any kids.

Their Eddie Bauer backpack diaper bag looks great, and not at all like a standard (silly) diaper bag. It even looks like it’d be useful once you no longer need a diaper bag.

And the Carter’s easy access diaper bag is definitely cute, in a chic sort of way. I know it’s a bit larger than most purses, but definitely looks like a purse so it could match a ton of outfits… unlike standard diaper bags with things like clown prints.

For decorating my cousin’s baby’s room, the MiGi splash crib bedding would be wonderful! It’s cute, but not too cute, and it’s in such nice colors. It’s the sort of thing that you could decorate an entire room around.

Now my problem is not finding what to get my cousin next time I buy her a gift, it’s picking out which to give her! So many choices… which do I pick?

Kitten attack

May-11-2007 By annelions

The kitten has now grown enough to start ‘attacking’ me when it’s hungry. It runs up to me (it doesn’t sleep that far away) and starts trying to suck on my knee. Then when I pick it up, it starts chewing on and clawing my fingers, at least until I can get it to chew on and suck from the kitten bottle.

It’s about time to start teaching the kitten how to eat real food. I ordered pizza the other day and gave it little tiny, tiny bits of bacon. It ate them, though I’m not sure it knew it was eating them. It had more fun sucking on my greasy fingers.

Nifty AccuWeather.com stuff

May-3-2007 By annelions

It’s almost summer, so I decided to install the nifty weather widget from AccuWeather.com. Then you all can melt with me as the temperatures reach 100+ F. Perhaps I should also install one for those of you who would rather read 38C instead of 100F? Hm.

I think I’ll leave it the way it is for right now, although it’s so easy to customize and install the widget that I could add the other one right now. I rather like the beachball in the pool background on mine, don’t you? There are a bunch of different sizes and backgrounds, though, that I could have chosen from. It’s awfully cool.

And if you go to look at the accuweather video challenge, you’ll see that you can win the opportunity to do a real forecast for AccuWeather, along with $5,000. That looks like a lot of fun to me (not to mention the money is pretty cool, too!)

Just can’t shake it…

A couple days ago, I got what seemed to be allergies. Runny/stuffy nose & sore throat. There was a dust storm blowing in, so that’s what I figured it was. Well, it hasn’t gone away. Seems to have turned into a nice head cold. I drank a bunch of orange juice and that seemed to help, but it’s back again.

Sick and tired of being sick. It’s just not fair! Agh!
