How can it be almost Christmas already?

Nov-30-2006 By annelions

I swear, it feels like it was just Halloween yesterday. And New Year’s Day last week. So how is it that it’s already time for Christmas shopping?

Luckily, if (like me) you do much of your shopping online, you can use coupon codes when you checkout. Unfortunately, Amazon rarely has any good coupons… but they do tend to have good deals (free shipping and cheaper than other places with a coupon).

I just have to pick out what to buy! :-D

Winter is too cold

Nov-30-2006 By annelions

It may not snow here, but it gets too cold for me. Already, it’s near freezing at night. And just a week or two ago, it was 70F at night.

I could never live where it snows. I can’t imagine it being any colder than it gets here! I know it does, but still. Brrrr.

Right now, it’s just about 50F… too cold for me!

Who wins?

If PayPerPost were to fight my kitty, who would win? Well, if you know my kitty… you might guess how this fight might turn out.

As a hint, I’ll tell you that the kitty absolutely refused to cooperate with making this video! I had to resort to using, ah, ’stock video’ of him. He absolutely does not care whether I get paid for blogging or not! :-D

So here now, for your viewing pleasure, my kitty vs. PPP:

Darn spammers…

Nov-29-2006 By annelions

I’m sitting here, watching my stats… and I get more than half a dozen comments in a row. But they’re all spam. The same exact comment, from the same exact name… but using different IPs. Proxies.

Luckily, I have Akismet so the comments didn’t actually get posted… but it’s very annoying to have to deal with comment spam anyway.

I wish I could have access to the spammers’ computers for just five minutes… so I could throw them out a window. :-P

Buying a radio

Nov-29-2006 By annelions

It’s been a long time since I’ve bought a radio. Generally, they’ve been limited to the clock radio kind without much thought to other features. I suppose this is because I don’t really listen to any of the radio stations around here.

But if I had digital radio, I’d have access to a whole lot more stations. But how do you choose which radio you want? Oh, it’s hard!

But would there actually be anything I’d want to listen to or would it sit and gather dust in the closet with the other radios? I have rather selective music tastes. They run to a bit… odd.

I’ll have to look into it further, later, but I somehow doubt that any radio station would play exactly what I want to hear. :-D

Except classical music, I do like classical music.

Computers hate me

Nov-29-2006 By annelions

Usually. It’s true. I can hardly ever get them to do exactly what I want.

One of the worst offenders is getting web pages to display properly. Not only do I have to contend with browser differences, but I swear the stuff never does exactly what I think it’s going to.

I’ve been doing some web site stuff tonight and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without W3Schools. I needed some CSS help and they have pages where you can work on examples, make changes and see how they work. So handy.

I still hate CSS, though. The feeling’s mutual. :-D

Oooh… cool… pictures…

Have you ever wanted to decorate your wall with a picture, but didn’t want the messiness and uncertainty of paint, maybe Wallhogs is for you. The name is kind of strange, but the products look pretty nifty!

You pick a picture, or upload your own, and they’ll turn it into a banner up to 7 feet tall and 52 inches wide. Or, I guess, you could turn the image sideways and make it 7 feet wide and 52 inches tall. :-D And the largest, most expensive, is less than $100. Smaller ones are even less.

They have some sort of adhesive backing, the vinyl ones, so they’re supposed to cling to smooth walls with no problem, but they can be removed and reused according to the directions on the site. They’re also supposed to have an appearance almost like paint when applied.

I think I’d like to order a couple at the smaller sizes with pictures like this space picture or this garden picture to decorate my room.

And wouldn’t a picture like this or this Nativity scene make a nice backdrop for a Chrismas display, when printed on the canvas? And if you don’t have much room where you live for a real tree, you could use this picture of a Christmas tree instead. I think it’s a lovely picture.

I can think of so many other pictures I’d want to have printed and hang on my walls!
