Narnia…
Over the past several days, I have read the Chronicles of Narnia (7 books).
I am not impressed.
They all, for the most part, seemed terribly contrived and transparent. By the middle of the book, generally, you could tell how the story was going to turn out. It makes it not much worth reading the second half, except to find out the exact details.
'The Silver Chair' was simply awful, 'The Last Battle' was worse. 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' was probably the best book… although none of them were really good.
The stories are supposed to be an allegory for the Biblical creation story and all. I can see that. But I think the Bible does a better job of telling it (and makes it more interesting). Sorry, C.S. Lewis.
